Countdown started… 30 days to the Official Opening of the Dubai Metro (In Arabic: مترو دبي) the driverless, fully automated metro network which is under construction in Dubai. The Red and Since lots of times tourists and residents in Dubai are able to see trains crossing the city, for the needed technical tests before the opening, scheduled for the 9-9-9 (September, 9th 2009).
Even though for the scheduled date, not all the stations odf Dubai Metro will open; RTA – the Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai – announced that 17 to 22 stations (on a total of 29) will open in September.
Moreover, there is the problem related to bus service: during a press conference the RTA chief Mattar Al Tayer admitted the emirate’s metro cannot work without an established bus network carrying passengers to and from the stations. RTA purchased 518 buses in order to solve the question. Another question is related to parking.. there will be enough space for all the passengers intentioned to reach the stations with a private car?
“Metro stations feeder bus service is one of the strategic initiatives and prime pillars of the drive to boost the share of public transport modes in the number of person trips made as it contributes to enticing more commuters across the community segments to use public transport in their daily travels” added in a second conference Essa Abdul Rahman Al Dossari, CEO of the RTA’s Public Transport Agency.
Actually, we have just to buy a ticket… and wait for!
