Conceived by the celebrated architect and interior designer Joseph Farcus, the Costa Deliziosa stands out on account of her exclusive and spectacular design. This stat-of-the art design is characterized by the use of premium materials such as various types of marble and granite, stucco applied by spatula using the technique known as “spatolato veneziano” and other decorative interior finishes including “parchment scroll” lamé, refined Zebrano wood and Wenge timber, Murano glass, and stylish polished and glazed steel, 970 “La Murrina” Murano chandeliers. Featuring in the stunning atrium, very much the focal point here as on all Costa ships, are fine works of art, notably “Sphere” by Arnaldo Pomodoro and a piece called “Delizia fisica e Delizia intellettuale” (Physical Delight and Intellectual Delight), by leading contemporary Italian painter Mario Donizetti. Onboard the Costa Deliziosa the art gallery offers pieces of artists who worked for Costa Deliziosa and other ships in Costa fleet, with a na new figure of the crew staff, the Art Director, entirely dedicated to free guided tours for guests to discover the rich art collection of ship, which includes 340 original works.

There are endless opportunities for fun and entertainment on board the Costa Deliziosa, all of them based on cutting-edge technology. Starting from Costa’s  5 “C” Wonders:

-          a spectacularly entertaining 4D cinema with sound, lighting, images and special effects that combine to create a multi-sensory experience hitherto unheard of on a cruise ship;

-          the most professional Golf Simulator on any cruise ship, featuring thirty-seven 18-hole virtual courses plus an outdoor area of 100 square meters with a putting green;

-          the Grand Prix driving simulator: situated in one of the most spectacular places on board, this attraction is not a videogame but is produced from an original GP car and is the most accurate representation ever of Grand Prix driving on the world’s best racing circuits with the same software and technology used by the F1 champion drivers themselves in training;

Onboard the Costa Deliziosa a wi-fi internet connection is available both in cabins and in public areas.

The leading-edge innovations also extend to environmental compliance and protection.  The Costa Deliziosa and the Costa Luminosa, entered into service on May 2009, are the first ships in Italy and  one of the first in the world to be equipped for “cold ironing”, namely a system whereby vessels are plugged into shoreside electrical power, enabling generators to be shut down during stopovers in port.  And that’s not all:  on board there is 100% waste separation, recycling of aluminum, glass and other waste streams, and production of water from desalination plants. Also, the Costa Deliziosa includes various additional special emission-reducing measures.

Another surprise in store is the ship’s theater.  This show lounge is a highly sophisticated structure which have a surface area of 1,300 m², arranged on 3 levels, with a height of about 10 meters, and seating capacity of over 800.  It features amenities and technology setting an example for similar entertainment facilities built ashore.  In particular, advanced  LED technology, with around 14,000 LED lights, ensure a special effects capability so spectacular as to constitute, in itself, a “show within the show”.

Costa Deliziosa – Itineraries for 2010

The Costa Deliziosa’s grand maiden cruise departs from Savona on February 5, 2010.  This one-off itinerary will last 38 days:  the first part will be a 21-day extravaganza from Savona to Dubai, crossing the Red Sea and including ports of call in Egypt, Jordan and Oman, while the second, 17-day stretch will head east to India and the Maldives. Customers can book either leg or both.  Until May 2010 the Costa Deliziosa will be based in Dubai, from where she will offer exclusive 7-day cruises around the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Bahrain.

In May 2010 the liner will return to Savona on a spectacular 18-day positioning cruise, then from there on to Copenhagen, which will be her summer homeport for 7-day cruises to the Norwegian fjords and Baltic cities.

In the fall the Costa Deliziosa will be deployed on 10-day trips to Egypt with departures from Savona, Naples and Messina.

In winter 2010/11 Costa Deliziosa will come back to the Arabic Gulf, offering 7-day cruises from Dubai. Also summer cruises in Northern Europe will be confirmed. In the fall the ship will offer 11-day cruises to Canary Islands. Le innovazioni legate alla tecnologia riguardano anche la tutela e la protezione dell’ambiente. Costa Deliziosa e la gemella Costa Luminosa, entrata in servizio a maggio 2009, sono le prime navi in  Italia e tra le prime al mondo a essere predisposte per il “cold ironing”, ovvero  il sistema che permette alle navi ferme in banchina di ricevere la corrente da terra, senza dover tenere accesi i motori per alimentare i generatori di bordo. Non solo: a bordo delle navi sono previsti il 100% di raccolta differenziata, riciclo di alluminio, vetro e altre tipologie di rifiuti, produzione di acqua attraverso dissalatori. Inoltre solo su Costa Deliziosa sono presenti speciali innovazioni per la riduzione del consumo di carburante e delle emissioni di CO2.

Una delle sorprese che Costa Deliziosa riserva è certamente il Teatro. Una struttura altamente sofisticata che copre una superficie di 1.300 m², disposta su 3 livelli, con un altezza di circa 10 metri, può ospitare oltre 800 spettatori, e dispone di tecnologie e scenografie tali da costituire un esempio per analoghe strutture anche sulla terraferma. In particolare una tecnologia LED all’avanguardia, con circa 14.000 luci, consente giochi di luce e colori che creano un vero e proprio “spettacolo nello spettacolo”. Costa Deliziosa – Gli itinerari 2010

La grande crociera inaugurale di Costa Deliziosa salpa da Savona il 5 febbraio 2010. Un itinerario unico di 38 giorni: la prima parte, di 21 giorni, da Savona a Dubai, attraverso il Mar Rosso, toccando Egitto, Giordania e Oman; la seconda, di 17 giorni, verso oriente in India e le Isole Maldive. Le due tratte possono anche essere acquistate separatamente. Sino a maggio 2010 Costa Deliziosa rimarrà posizionata a Dubai, per offrire le esclusive crociere di 7 giorni negli Emirati Arabi, Oman e Bahrein.

A maggio 2010 tornerà a Savona con una spettacolare crociera di posizionamento di 18 giorni, e da lì si sposterà a Copenaghen, da dove, nel corso dell’estate, offrirà crociere di 7 giorni nei fiordi norvegesi e nelle capitali del Baltico.

Rilevante affermazione nel Middle East per Clivet, il leader europeo in sistemi di climatizzazione (fatturato: 120 milioni): confrontandosi con i maggiori competitors mondiali, grazie all’altissimo livello di supporto fornito dalle fasi progettuali fino all’assemblaggio in loco, ha ottenuto l’incarico di climatizzare l’avveniristico Aldar Headquarters, il primo edificio sferico del Medio Oriente.

Per il gruppo il prestigio della commessa, insieme agli altri importanti incarichi acquisiti nell’area di Dubai quali il Burj Dubai Water Feature (spettacolari giochi d’acqua di fronte al Burj Dubai, il più alto grattacielo mai costruito dall’uomo), l’Al Zahra Hospital e il Dubai Metro, farà da apripista per l’incremento del business aziendale negli Emirati Arabi Uniti: la “Grande Conchiglia”, con una superficie di 51mila metri quadri, un’altezza da 110 metri e l’esterno tutto in acciaio e vetro, dal 2010 ospiterà il quartier generale di Aldar Properties, la più grande società di sviluppo immobiliare di Abu Dhabi, e sarà sede dei centri direzionali delle più importanti società internazionali dell’Al Raha Beach Development, il progetto di sviluppo da 14,7 miliardi di dollari del nuovo distretto urbano di Abu Dhabi.
La penetrazione in questo mercato fa parte della strategia di sviluppo aziendale, che attraverso l’apertura nel 2008 della nuova filiale a Dubai, intende estendere il proprio presidio a tutta l’area del Gcc (Gulf Cooperation Council). Per la fine del 2009 Clivet realizzerà in Medio Oriente un fatturato da 8 milioni di dollari, e le previsioni aziendali parlano di una forte crescita: a fine 2010 il fatturato sarà di 15 milioni e entro il prossimo triennio balzerà a 20 milioni di dollari. Spiega il presidente Bruno Bellò: «Tra gli obiettivi Clivet c’è il rafforzamento della posizione sui mercati esteri, che già nel 2008 hanno gratificato la società veneta con un +6% e che entro i prossimi 3 anni genereranno, secondo le previsioni, il 65% dell’intero fatturato aziendale».
L’Italia resta comunque, per il Gruppo, il principale mercato di riferimento, dove acquisire nuove quote di mercato e rafforzare ulteriormente la propria posizione nel comparto abitativo privato, che può già vantare un turnover in notevole aumento rispetto all’anno precedente. «Il fatturato 2008 relativo alle pompe di calore per uso domestico è cresciuto di oltre il 30%, e anche nel terziario registriamo grandi risultati.
Possiamo vantare oltre 10.000.000 metri quadrati di superfici commerciali servite negli ultimi 10 anni, oltre 800 sale cinematografiche e teatrali e collaborazioni con importanti nomi come McDonald’s, Bennet, Auchan, IKEA, Warner Village, UCI Cinemas, Ferrari, Microsoft. La nostra strategia, dunque, non cambia e continueremo a investire ogni anno oltre il 3% del fatturato in ricerca e sviluppo, in particolare nella ricerca applicata ai sistemi per il risparmio energetico e la riduzione dell’impatto ambientale, confortati dalle normative del Governo e della Comunità Europea», commenta Bellò.
Il gruppo Clivet, fondato nel 1989 a Feltre (Bl) da Bruno Bellò, è specializzato in sistemi di riscaldamento, raffreddamento e trattamento aria a basso impatto ambientale per industrie, centri commerciali e outlet, negozi, hotel, ristoranti, centri direzionali, cinema multisala, ospedali, ma anche abitazioni private. Conta 550 dipendenti in Italia e 300 operanti nelle 8 sedi estere. Nonostante la congiuntura economica non favorevole, grazie anche all’importante azione di rafforzamento e sviluppo, Clivet conta di poter
riconfermare nell’anno in corso i positivi risultati del 2008.

How Dubai’s dream sank in a sea of debt

Così titolava il Sunday Times nell’ultimo numero, simulando in un fotomontaggio lo Sceicco Al Maktoum che affoga. Le autorità dell’emirato hanno vietato la vendita dell’ultimo numero del giornale britannico Sunday Times, spiegando che l’immagine è ritenuta offensiva e non consona alla tradizione e alla cultura locale, che non accetta pubbliche offese ad una figura di spicco, quale Sheikh Mohammed Al Maktoum. Il funzionario ha però assicurato che «non si tratta di un bando che riguarda questo o altro giornali internazionali che continueranno a essere distribuiti, come è stato in questi giorni quando ci sono state forti critiche all’emirato di Dubai per la crisi finanziaria che sta attraversando.

So is the title of the Sunday Times edition available in the Dubai U.A.E. on Nov. 29, removed by authorities from shelves: the National Media Council of the United Arab Emirates ordered the paper blocked by distributors.

A government official in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the U.A.E., said that the picture of Sheik Mohammed was “offensive” and not in line with the culture and tradition of U.A.E.Under the U.A.E.’s media code, publications are prohibited from criticizing the sheikdom’s rulers. Local media and government officials have criticized international press coverage of Dubai’s debt crisis.

Khalīfa bin Zāyed Āl Nahayān (Al Ain, 1948), politico emiratino ed attuale Presidente degli Emirati Arabi Uniti (in carica dal 4 novembre 2004, quando è successo al padre scomparso Zāyed bin Sultān ĀNahayān), nonché sceicco dell’emirato di Abu Dhabi, sarebbe interessato ad acquistare la prestigiosa Villa Certosa.

Villa Certosa è la residenza extralusso del premier Silvio Berlusconi, situata non lontano da Porto Rotondo.

La famiglia Al Nahyan è attualmente l’azionista di maggioranza della squadra di calcio del Manchester City; inoltre è stato confermato, che dal 31 ottobre 2008, possiede il 16,3% della seconda più grande banca della Gran Bretagna, Barclays, grazie ad un investimento di 3,5 miliardi di sterline che ha salvato la banca dal fallimento.

La somma richiesta sarebbe di 450 milioni di euro, ma la notizia non è stata commentata dal premier né dal suo immobiliarista. Non è la prima richiesta di compra-vendita di Villa Certosa.

La trattativa però sembra essere in fase avanzata e potrebbe sbloccarsi del tutto in occasione della visita di  Stato del premier Silvio Berlusconi ad Abu Dhabi e Dubai.

Un report del Khaleej Times (Khaleej Times il principale quotidiano in lingua inglese degli Emirati Arabi Uniti, pubblicato a Dubai viene diffuso in tutti gli stati della penisola arabica, dall’Oman al Qatar, lo Yemen e l’Arabia Saudita) riporta la presenza di amianto, a Dubai, sebbene la sostanza sia vietata dal Governo (con una legge approvata nel 2006) e sebbene il Dubai Municipality Environment Department  parli di un controllo serrato sul commercio di materiale pericoloso. L’agenzia parla di vendita di amianto a Deira e Satwa.

Alcune fonti stimano che tra il 70 e l’80 % delle case costruite a Dubai possano avere delle tracce di amianto.

L’asbesto (o amianto) è un insieme di minerali del gruppo dei silicati, appartenente alle serie mineralogiche del serpentino e degli anfiboli.
In natura è un materiale molto comune. La sua resistenza al calore e la sua struttura fibrosa lo rendono adatto come materiale per indumenti e tessuti da arredamento a prova di fuoco, ma la sua ormai accertata nocività per la salute ha portato a vietarne l’uso in molti Paesi. Le polveri di amianto, respirate, provocano infatti l’asbestosi, nonché tumori della pleura, ovvero il mesotelioma pleurico e dei bronchi, ed il carcinoma polmonare.

Una fibra di amianto è 1300 volte più sottile di un capello umano.  Non esiste una soglia di rischio al di sotto della quale la concentrazione di fibre di amianto nell’aria non sia pericolosa: teoricamente l’inalazione anche di una sola fibra può causare il mesotelioma ed altre patologie mortali, tuttavia un’esposizione prolungata nel tempo o ad elevate quantità aumenta esponenzialmente le probabilità di contrarle.

L’amianto è stato utilizzato fino agli anni ottanta per produrre la miscela cemento-amianto (il cui nome commerciale era Eternit) per la coibentazione di edifici, tetti, navi (ad esempio le portaerei classe Clemenceau), treni; come materiale per l’edilizia (tegole, pavimenti, tubazioni, vernici, canne fumarie), nelle tute dei vigili del fuoco, nelle auto (vernici, parti meccaniche), ma anche per la fabbricazione di corde, plastica e cartoni. Asbestos available on black market in DubaiA recent report in the Khaleej Times says asbestos is still readily available in Dubai on the black market, despite a government ban on the substance. While representatives from the Dubai Municipality Environment Department say they are not aware of any black market trading of the hazardous material, the news agency says industry sources confirm it is easy to find illegal asbestos sales in Deira and Satwa.

The United Arab Emirates passed a law in 2006 banning the sale of sheets of asbestos. Asbestos has been linked to diseases including asbestosis, a severe scarring of the lungs; and mesothelioma, a deadly cancer that affects the lining of the lungs and, more rarely, the abdomen.

The Dubai Municipality is striving to put checks in place that would oversee the removal of asbestos from demolition sites and ensure that it is disposed of properly, but workers says they are regularly approached by people offering to buy the asbestos they are removing from a site, the Times reports.

It is estimated that between 70 and 80 percent of homes in Dubai contain some asbestos. The material is found most commonly in asbesots building sheets, but has also been identified in asbestos water pipes, floor tiles and decorative wallpaper.

Asbestos is a naturally occurring silicate mineral with long, thin fibrous crystals. The word asbestos (ἄσβεστος) is a borrowed Greek adjective meaning inextinguishable. The Greeks termed asbestos the miracle mineral because of its soft and pliant properties, as well as its ability to withstand heat.

Asbestos can be toxic. The inhalation of asbestos fibers can cause serious illnesses, including malignant lung cancer, mesothelioma (a type of malignant neoplasm dependent mostly from exposure to asbestos), and asbestosis (a type of pneumoconiosis). Since the mid 1980s, the European Union and most developed countries have banned asbestos. Since January 1 2005 the European Union has banned all types of utilization of asbestos Directive 1999/77/EC and extraction, manufacture and processing of asbestos products Directive 2003/18/EC.

Asbestos generally is not dangerous unless it is disturbed, when it releases microscopic fibers that can be inhaled and which remain in the body indefinitely. A large part of the problem is that people are unaware of the lurking danger and expose themselves to these fibers during home renovation projects.

Asbestos has been popular because of its low cost, so it is more commonly found in lower cost accommodations, the Times reports.

DUBAI – Potentially carcinogenic asbestos building materials are still being sold on the black market, despite a government ban, experts have warned.

Between 70-90 per cent of homes in Dubai contain some asbestos, which can cause cancer when particles are inhaled, according to two demolition industry managers charged with asbestos removal.

Ed Ferrero, senior manager at GTS Holdings in Dubai, said that building sheets containing asbestos were still available in some areas of the country.

“We were involved in a major project in a cargo area of Port Rashid last year which required the removal of 600,000 tonnes of asbestos,” he said.

“During the project we had everyday people approaching us asking if they could buy the asbestos sheets that we were removing. I was horrified.”

Hamdan Al Shaer, Head of the Environment Department at Dubai Municipality, said that he was not aware of anyone selling asbestos on the black market, but stressed that it was illegal. “Asbestos sheets are no longer allowed to be sold,” he said.

However, industry sources say that several small “back-street traders” in the Deira and Satwa areas of Dubai still sell asbestos sheets.

In 2006, the UAE Cabinet issued a law stating that sheets of asbestos, which has fire-resistant properties,  could no longer be sold.

In addition, the law states that a survey needs to be conducted before demolition to see whether there is any asbestos in the building. If any is found, it must be removed and disposed of an approved way.

However, in some cases, asbestos can remain in a building if a survey is carried out by someone who does not have proper training. The issue becomes a problem once demolition begins.

Using the traditional demolition technique of a ball and crane was inappropriate, Ferrero said. “This causes massive amounts of asbestos dust to explode in the air and cover nearby communities. There are many cases where residents have complained because of worries over health.”

Asbestos fibres are normally only harmful when they are stirred up in dust form, for instance at the time of demolition.

In the United Kingdom, some 5,000 workers die every year through illnesses linked to asbestos exposure, according to the Health and Safety Executive.

Dubai Municipality has also introduced a local law where officials can check whether a survey and removal has been carried out before granting a demolition permit.

Companies in the UK require a ‘Hazardous Waste Carriers’ license before they can carry out asbestos removal. Ferrero said no formal certificates is required in the UAE and many demolition companies here simply did the survey and removal themselves.

“We carry the formal qualifications from the UK and we were registered with the Dubai Municipality on those grounds,” said Chris Ferguson, technical director at Angus Asbestos Removal. “However, a lot of those who have also been registered do not carry the same qualifications.”

Despite the Cabinet ban against asbestos building sheets,  several other asbestos products, such as water pipes, have remained legal to sell and use in building.

In the UK, asbestos sheets were banned as early as 1970 but asbestos pipes were banned only in 2000.

According to Ferguson, asbestos can be found in other products such as floor tiles and decorative wallpaper. “The absolute majority of homes in Dubai have some form of asbestos in them,” he said.

Since asbestos is a cheap building alternative, it is typically more often found in low-cost accommodation rather than large  villas, he said.
