Wild Wadi

Situated on Jumeirah Beach road in front of Burj Al Arab and close Jumeirah BEach Hotel, Wild Wadi is the only themed amusement park in the UAE. Packed with action “go-on-if-you dare” kind of rides, Wild Wadi has the world’s second highest water slide, the Middle East’s largest wave pool and rides with names like The Tunnel of Doom, Tantrum Alley and Wipeout. Dubai harbours some of the most spectacular locations for golf in the region. There are plenty of world-class clubs to play at and with a list of courses that reads like a who’s who of the golfing world including courses designed by Greg Norman, Ernie Els, Colin Montgomerie, Ian Baker-Finch, Vijay Singh, it’s little wonder the International Association of Golf Tour Operators has voted Dubai one of the most exciting golfing destinations in the world.

Le isole desert di Abu Dhabi sono diventate un’attrazione turistica. A 8 km circa dalla costa ovest di Abu Dhabi, si trova un arcipelago di 8 isole: Sir Bani Yas, Dalma e le Discovery Islands. Un luogo ancora sconosciuto ai più, ma che sta diventando centro di un’interessante iniziativa mirata alla riqualificazione turistica del territorio di Abu Dhabi (con itinerari naturalistici) e, al tempo stesso, alla qualificazione dei residenti.

Il Desert Islands Education Centre (DIEC) eroga per residenti del posto aventi una forte volontà di emanciparsi, corsi di inglese, corsi manageriali e corsi di computer, così da poter formare delle vere e proprie guide turistiche del territorio. Un mix di corsi teorici e pratici, che includono stage a Sir Bani Yas Island, sede di tante attrazioni naturalistiche, come il Arabian Wildlife Park. L’obiettivo è quello di creare opportunità di carriera ed emancipazione per la popolazione locale; il primo anno è stato già un successo e ha già ottenuto un forte impatto sulla comunità di Dalma Island.

Dopo aver conseguito la laurea in Mass Communications in Al Ain (uno dei 7 emirati degli UAE), a 24 anni è tornata a casa con la voglia di avviarsi ad una carriera; ha quindi frequentato un corso di inglese al DIEC, per migliorare le skills linguistiche. ‘Non sapevo dell’esistenza del Diploma in Turismo allora,’ dice. ‘Quando ci hanno parlato di questa possibilità al DIEC, ero così eccitata, perchè ero convinta che potesse completare la mia formazione. Avevo ragione. Il turismo per me è anche comunicazione: significa presentare la tua cultura ad altre persone”.

Maryam andava a Sir Bani Yas Island quando era una bambina, perchè il padre lavorava lì (ironia della sorte…) nell’ambito di un progetto per la preservazione dei beni naturalistici della zona.

There are endless opportunities for fun and entertainment on board the Costa Deliziosa, all of them based on cutting-edge technology. Starting from Costa’s  5 “C” Wonders:

-          a spectacularly entertaining 4D cinema with sound, lighting, images and special effects that combine to create a multi-sensory experience hitherto unheard of on a cruise ship;

Onboard the Costa Deliziosa a wi-fi internet connection is available both in cabins and in public areas.

The leading-edge innovations also extend to environmental compliance and protection.  The Costa Deliziosa and the Costa Luminosa, entered into service on May 2009, are the first ships in Italy and  one of the first in the world to be equipped for “cold ironing”, namely a system whereby vessels are plugged into shoreside electrical power, enabling generators to be shut down during stopovers in port.  And that’s not all:  on board there is 100% waste separation, recycling of aluminum, glass and other waste streams, and production of water from desalination plants. Also, the Costa Deliziosa includes various additional special emission-reducing measures.

Another surprise in store is the ship’s theater.  This show lounge is a highly sophisticated structure which have a surface area of 1,300 m², arranged on 3 levels, with a height of about 10 meters, and seating capacity of over 800.  It features amenities and technology setting an example for similar entertainment facilities built ashore.  In particular, advanced  LED technology, with around 14,000 LED lights, ensure a special effects capability so spectacular as to constitute, in itself, a “show within the show”.

Costa Deliziosa – Itineraries for 2010

The Costa Deliziosa’s grand maiden cruise departs from Savona on February 5, 2010.  This one-off itinerary will last 38 days:  the first part will be a 21-day extravaganza from Savona to Dubai, crossing the Red Sea and including ports of call in Egypt, Jordan and Oman, while the second, 17-day stretch will head east to India and the Maldives. Customers can book either leg or both.  Until May 2010 the Costa Deliziosa will be based in Dubai, from where she will offer exclusive 7-day cruises around the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Bahrain.

In May 2010 the liner will return to Savona on a spectacular 18-day positioning cruise, then from there on to Copenhagen, which will be her summer homeport for 7-day cruises to the Norwegian fjords and Baltic cities.

In the fall the Costa Deliziosa will be deployed on 10-day trips to Egypt with departures from Savona, Naples and Messina.

In winter 2010/11 Costa Deliziosa will come back to the Arabic Gulf, offering 7-day cruises from Dubai. Also summer cruises in Northern Europe will be confirmed. In the fall the ship will offer 11-day cruises to Canary Islands. Su Costa Deliziosa è inoltre attivo un servizio di collegamento internet wi-fi, sia in cabina che nelle aree pubbliche della nave.

Le innovazioni legate alla tecnologia riguardano anche la tutela e la protezione dell’ambiente. Costa Deliziosa e la gemella Costa Luminosa, entrata in servizio a maggio 2009, sono le prime navi in  Italia e tra le prime al mondo a essere predisposte per il “cold ironing”, ovvero  il sistema che permette alle navi ferme in banchina di ricevere la corrente da terra, senza dover tenere accesi i motori per alimentare i generatori di bordo. Non solo: a bordo delle navi sono previsti il 100% di raccolta differenziata, riciclo di alluminio, vetro e altre tipologie di rifiuti, produzione di acqua attraverso dissalatori. Inoltre solo su Costa Deliziosa sono presenti speciali innovazioni per la riduzione del consumo di carburante e delle emissioni di CO2.

Una delle sorprese che Costa Deliziosa riserva è certamente il Teatro. Una struttura altamente sofisticata che copre una superficie di 1.300 m², disposta su 3 livelli, con un altezza di circa 10 metri, può ospitare oltre 800 spettatori, e dispone di tecnologie e scenografie tali da costituire un esempio per analoghe strutture anche sulla terraferma. In particolare una tecnologia LED all’avanguardia, con circa 14.000 luci, consente giochi di luce e colori che creano un vero e proprio “spettacolo nello spettacolo”. Se al teatro e agli spettacoli dal vivo si preferisce il video, ecco il Mega Schermo di 18 m², che grazie alla sua particolare tecnologia offre musica e intrattenimento a tutte le ore del giorno.  Il Mega Schermo si trova dell’area piscina centrale, che si sviluppa su ben 2 ponti della nave, e può essere utilizzata in qualsiasi stagione grazie alla sua copertura mobile di cristallo.

Per completare l’esperienza di “puro piacere” Costa Deliziosa offre moltissime opportunità legate al benessere e alla gastronomia. A bordo è possibile fare jogging o pattinare sulla pista da roller skate, scoprendo quanto sia piacevole praticare sport tra cielo e mare, oppure approfittare dell’attrezzatissima palestra, con le più innovative attrezzature Techonogym. Il ristorante Samsara, dedicato agli ospiti delle cabine Samsara, offre invece un menù all’insegna della leggerezza. Gli amanti dei dolci e delle prelibatezze troveranno il loro regno nel “chocolate bar”, mentre chi preferisce un’atmosfera più classica e “old style” ha a disposizione il “cigar bar”.

Costa Deliziosa – Gli itinerari 2010

La grande crociera inaugurale di Costa Deliziosa salpa da Savona il 5 febbraio 2010. Un itinerario unico di 38 giorni: la prima parte, di 21 giorni, da Savona a Dubai, attraverso il Mar Rosso, toccando Egitto, Giordania e Oman; la seconda, di 17 giorni, verso oriente in India e le Isole Maldive. Le due tratte possono anche essere acquistate separatamente. Sino a maggio 2010 Costa Deliziosa rimarrà posizionata a Dubai, per offrire le esclusive crociere di 7 giorni negli Emirati Arabi, Oman e Bahrein.

Genoa – February 17, 2010 – Only 6 days to go to the big inauguration event for the Costa Deliziosa (www.costadeliziosa.com), the new jewel of the Costa Cruises fleet,  which will be held in Dubai on February 23 in a unique and innovative ceremony staged by the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) together with Europe’s n.1 cruise line.

The Costa Deliziosa, which was built in Italy by Fincantieri and delivered in Venice on January 30 this year, set sail from Savona on February 5 on her Grand Inaugural Cruise taking her – across the Mediterranean, Suez Canal, Red Sea and Arabian Gulf – to Dubai, where she will making a stopover from February 23 through 26.

The Costa Deliziosa, the fifteenth Costa fleet member, will be the first cruise ship ever to be named in an Arab city.  The ceremony will further strengthen the links between Costa Cruises, the largest Italian travel group and Europe’s n. 1 cruise line, and the DTCM.  Over 3,000 guests are expected to witness the event, including about 2,200 Costa Guests traveling on the first sector of the maiden cruise.

En route to Dubai, the Costa Deliziosa – a roving ambassador of Italian-made excellence – will be celebrating with two first ever calls:  one on February 20 in Muscat, the splendid capital of Oman where the new cruise terminal will be inaugurated, and the other on February 22 in Abu Dhabi.  During both stopovers the ship will be met by government delegations and Italian State dignitaries who will pay a special tribute to the Italian Tricolor.

Tuesday, February 23 in Dubai will see the grand inauguration event, involving not only the ship but also the new cruise terminal at Port Rashid and part of the quay where a stage and grandstand with seating for 3,000 will be set up specially to celebrate the Costa Deliziosa.

The inaugural show is set to be a memorable occasion and will stress the links between Italian and Arab culture:  the first part will be an artistic journey into the history and culture of Dubai and the Emirates, with traditional dance and music; then, the second part will be dedicated to Italian culture, music and art.  Khalid Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Director General of the DTCM, and Pier Luigi Foschi, Costa Crociere S.p.A. Chairman & CEO, will both make speeches and there will also be an exchange of greetings between local dignitaries and their counterparts from the Italian government.  In keeping with tradition, the ceremony will climax with the arrival of the godmother, who will cut the ribbon thus letting the bottle of champagne break against the bows of the ship.  The event will end with a fireworks display and a gala dinner in traditional Arab style.

The inaugural event  for the Costa Deliziosa is taking place in Dubai under the patronage of the Italian Embassy to the United Arab Emirates, the Consulate General of Italy in Dubai and the ICE (Istituto Italiano per il Commercio Estero, or Italian Institute of Foreign Trade).  It is being staged in partnership with Alpha Tours, Dnata, Emirates, Grand Hyatt, Gulf Venture, Jumeirah, Maserati and RHS (Raiss Hassan Saadi Group).

This event, which constitutes another milestone in the development of the cruise industry not only in Dubai but also in the region as a whole, is the result of an alliance between Costa Cruises, the first operator in the world to market regular cruises in the Gulf back in 2006, and the Government of Dubai, through the DTCM:  this solid partnership has contributed to the development of local tourism.

Following her Grand Inaugural Cruise, which will continue after the inaugural event to India and the Maldives, in March the Costa Deliziosa will be redeployed back in Dubai where, like her sister ship Costa Luminosa, she will be offering 7-day Arabian Gulf cruises.

The itinerary includes 2 nights in Dubai and one-day stopovers in the ports of Muscat (Oman), Fujairah & Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) and Bahrain.  The Costa Deliziosa will be sailing from Dubai every Sunday from March 14 through May 9, 2010; the Costa Luminosa is departing every Saturday through April 10, 2010.

Looking beyond the two jewels of the Costa fleet, this winter the Costa Europa is operating on another intercontinental itinerary:  18-day cruises from Savona to Dubai and Dubai to Savona – on an exclusive route crossing the Mediterranean, the Suez Canal and the Red Sea.

In winter 2010/2011, Costa Cruises will once again be offering 7-day Gulf cruises on the Costa Deliziosa and Costa Luminosa, the top of the range of Europe’s n.1 cruise line.

Costa Deliziosa, la quindicesima nave della flotta Costa, sarà la prima nave da crociera mai inaugurata in una città araba. According to the estimate of the World Tour Organization, Arab tourists spend more than anybody else; on average, a tourist from the Emirates spends $1700 in shopping and restaurants every time he/she travels, in spite of the ongoing tradition of bargaining, even during the sales season.

European countries appear not to be their favorite destination, for various reasons. First of all, we have to consider that the Islamic community feels more at ease traveling to Muslim countries; institutional websites themselves often give a very explicit indication in this sense.

The very way our system works is not inviting to rich tourists from the Emirates, for the organizations in charge of tourist proposals do not suggest any promotions for visits to Italy.

The small dimensions of the rooms do not meet the needs of Arab families (one or more wives, often many children, maids and babysitters), thus decreasing even more the presence of Arab tourists in Italy.

According to the daily newspaper The National of Abu Dhabi, the chain Marriott Hotel & Resort intends to double the size of its suites and standard rooms in 15 new hotels that are going to be built in China, Thailand and India, in order to meet the standards of space for Arab families and especially for Emirate families (today on average more numerous).

Nevertheless a simple marketing strategy could maximize results with limited effort: bigger rooms or communicating rooms in order to host families, chefs specialized in Muslim dishes, Middle Eastern satellite channels in the suites, prayer rooms for practicing Muslims, a greater knowledge of Muslim culture for the people working in the tourist industry (tour, hotel and congress operators).
