The world stands today in shock watching the quick unfolding of events in the Middle East. Arab societies have mastered the use of the “New Media” and are now capable of carrying out “e-based” uprisings. The excellent use of blogging combined with full utilization of social networks (Facebook and Twitter) and cell phone messaging (SMS and BBM), have enabled once disconnected parties and movements to link-up with one another and to mobilize the masses across the country.

The presence of dozens of Arab satellite television stations, radio stations and the internet have deprived Arab authoritarian regimes from any monopoly on flow of information in and out of the country and within. So called “winds of change” that are sweeping the region cannot leave indifferent the whole Arab world that needs to take proper measures to solve this delicate situation.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Thursday received Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at Al Bahr Palace.

The meeting took place in the presence of Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Dubai Deputy Ruler Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

During discussions they exchanged views on a number of issues, including ways to strengthen national unity and reinforce a sense of national identity amongst citizens. The talks also focused on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed’s tour of the northern emirates, where he met with citizens to learn about their needs, so that their living standards may be raised, under the wise leadership of UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Following the meeting Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid hosted a luncheon banquet in honour of his guests.
