– Second Race To Dubai Set For Thrilling Finale As Stars Target No.1 Spot on European Tour –
After a season that has seen 48 tournaments in 26 destinations, the second Race to Dubai will reach a fitting climax this month (November) with the staging of the Dubai World Championship presented by DP World over the Earth course at Jumeirah Golf Estates.
Following the massive success of the inaugural event 12 months ago, around 60,000 spectators are expected to take advantage of the free ticket offer (www.dubaiworldchampionship.com) and head down to the Earth course for the ultimate golfing celebration as Europe’s 60 best players battle it out for a share of a staggering $7.5 million in prize money as well as the right to be called the Number One player on The European Tour.
From November 25-28, Jumeirah Golf Estates will host a ‘Who’s Who’ of golf as names like Westwood, McDowell, McIlroy, Kaymer, Poulter and Harrington tee it up one more time at an event that has redefined the European game. And if anyone doubts that, look no further than the man who is arguably the best in the world…
“If you ever wanted a tournament to burst on to the scene, the 2009 Dubai World Championship was probably as good as it gets,” said Lee Westwood after storming to victory in both the Dubai World Championship and The Race to Dubai in 2009. “I think Dubai, the golf course and The European Tour came out of it looking fantastic. I think it’s a great effort for golf in this region and a great advert for golf on The European Tour.”
For Westwood, the 2009 season finally saw him back at the top during what has been a yo-yo career.
