High noon showdown for big guns as Dubai world Golf Championship gets underway


Dubai (UAE): The 2010 Dubai World Championship presented by DP World gets underway at the Earth course, Jumeirah Golf Estates today (Thursday) with the pairing of Race to Dubai leader Martin Kaymer and his nearest challenger Graeme McDowell the pick of the two-balls.

The top 60 players in The Race to Dubai will tackle the Greg Norman-designed course in 30 pairings with South Africa’s Thomas Aiken and Soren Hansen of Denmark the first group out at 7.30am.

But it’s the 12.30pm showdown between Kaymer from Germany and Northern Ireland’s McDowell that will catch the public eye as the only two men capable of winning the Race and becoming the new European Number One face a fascinating personal duel as the last pair out.

Kaymer Looking To Mark A Perfect Year At Dubai Golf World Championship


Dubai (UAE): Race to Dubai leader and USPGA Champion Martin Kaymer will go into the final round of the Race to Dubai tomorrow (Thursday) just four days away from what would be his perfect year.

The 25 year-old German currently leads the Race to Dubai from Northern Ireland’s Graeme McDowell. And with a Major title and the Ryder Cup under his belt, Kaymer is just one step away from his career dream.

“When I turned pro, I had three goals,” he said after playing in the Rolex Pro Am over the Earth course at Jumeirah Golf Estates yesterday (Tuesday). “The first was to win a Major. The second was to win the Ryder Cup and the third was to be European Number One.

Harrington Steers BMW To Victory In Dubai Golf World Championship Pro-Am


Dubai (UAE): Three-time Major winner Padraig Harrington steered his BMW 3 team of Tom Barry, Mike Tracey and Mike Sim to victory yesterday (Tuesday) in the Rolex Pro Am, curtain raiser to the 2010 Dubai World Championship presented by DP World.

Ryder Cup hero Harrington, who currently lies 18th in The Race to Dubai, proved to be in top form in a 28-team event, which saw stars such as Martin Kaymer, Graeme McDowell, Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood and Louis Oosthuizen give their amateur partners a day to remember over the championship course.

The Irishman and his amateur partners combined to shoot a winning score of nineteen under par, three shots ahead of runner-up Francesco Molinari and his playing partners Ramesh Prabhakar, Moshe Kohli and Sandeep Singh in the BMW 2 team who took second place on a count-back from Ian Poulter’s Emirates 3 team of Bob Atkins, Peter Jackson and Mathew Warren on sixteen-under.

“Padraig was wonderful to play with,” said amateur partner Tom Barry. “Whenever one of us had a chance to score, he would spend time reading the putts and helping us get the best score we could. He was a real team player.”

Dubai (UAE): Children studying at schools operated by local education provider Taaleem will have the chance of improving their golfing knowledge courtesy of the organisers of the forthcoming Dubai World Championship presented by DP World.
