Expats wishing to apply for a resident visa in Dubai or UAE, may have to pass a culture test in a near future. If they don’t pass the test, their application will not be approved.
The Federal National Council (in Arabic: المجلس الوطني الإتحادي al-Majlis al-Watani al-Ittihadi), the legislature of the United Arab Emirates, called for expats to have a better knowledge and awareness of local values and traditions.
The Federal National Council (FNC) has 40 members (8 from Abu Dhabi and Dubai; 6 from Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah; 4 from Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah): 20 members elected by the Electoral College; the other 20 nominated by their respective emirates.
Ahmed Shabeeb Al Dhahiri, First Deputy Speaker of the FNC, commented “too many people don’t know anything about our culture..”
A committee will be set up in October to understand feasibility and develop strategies; the same committee will be also in charge to estabilish a guide to the country’s traditions, to be issued to local embassies and consulates.
